2018 Annual Conference Frequently Asked Questions

Are you planning on (or interested in) attending the 2018 Annual Conference? Do you have questions? See below for a list of questions that may assist you in your conference planning. Prior to Registering
Registration opens around March 15.
No. You must register separately for the ACRL Pre-conference workshop?
Yes. Registration for the ACRL Pre-conference workshop is completely separate from the annual conference registration. You do not have to register for the conference to register for the pre-conference workshop.
Your full conference registration includes:
  • Attendance at the pre-conference reception at the MSU Union on Wednesday, May 16;
  • Attendance at the keynote address on Thursday;
  • Opportunity to attend 5 breakout sessions on Thursday and Friday;
  • Lunch on Thursday and Friday;
  • Attendance at the poster session on Thursday;
  • Tour of the MSU Libraries Digital Scholarship Lab (optional);
  • Attendance at the MiALA membership meeting on Friday; and
  • Plenty of opportunities to meet with interest groups and other like-minded Academic library colleagues
Yes. There are one-day registration rates available.
Room blocks have been secured for the nights of May 16 & 17, 2018 at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center: Go to www.kelloggcenter.com; Click on the "reservations" link at the top of the page; Select the "Check availability and book now!" link; Enter arrival, departure, rooms, & number of adults & children; Select "Click Here for Special Rates" and enter 1805MIALAA; Click "Check Availability" Call 800-875-5090 to make reservations and reference the Group Code 1805MIALAA. The room rate is $115.00 + taxes per night for Standard Double, Queen, or King Rooms; $129.00 + taxes per night for Deluxe King. The deadline to make a reservation using the MiALA room block is April 16, 2018. If you are having difficulties reserving a room using the group code, check out these step-by-step instructions
No. You do not need to be a member of MiALA to attend the conference but being a member will provide you with a discount on registration that would cover the cost of becoming a member.
The deadline to register for the conference is May 11, 2018.
The maximum number of attendees that the conference facility can accommodate is 250 so don't delay in getting registered. The ACRL pre-conference workshop is limited to 40 people.
Yes. The pre-conference reception is open to ALL conference attendees. It's free to attend and snacks will be provided. There will also be a cash bar available.
There is a possibility that one or more portions of the conference will be recorded but there are no plans to live stream. There will be attendees who will be live tweeting at many events/sessions throughout the conference. You can follow these tweets by searching for #MiALA18

Questions for Registered Attendees
Parking is not included in your conference registration. If you stay at the Kellogg Center, your parking is included with your room. Otherwise, Self-parking is $1.00 per hour or the maximum daily rate of $8.00. There is more information on alternate visitor parking on campus available here. Yes. A gender inclusive bathroom is available on the ground floor of the Kellogg Center, one level below the main meeting room and adjacent to two of the breakout rooms.
Yes, Kellogg Center has a room dedicated to new mothers. Just ask the front desk for a key to this room.
Yes. Interest groups are planning meetings/networking opportunites during the Thursday evening dinearounds, during lunch on Friday, and having informational meetings during the poster session on Thursday afternoon. We hope to post a more definitive list of IG events on the conference webpage.
Yes. If you would like to volunteer to help during the conference, fill out the volunteer form here.

We will be reaching out to presenters after the conference. If they are interested in providing their handouts/slide decks, we will post them on the program information page.
The deadline to cancel your registration and still get a refund is Friday, May 4 at 5:00 PM. Cancellations after that time will not be eligible for a refund.
