Member Spotlight - Elizabeth Measell

Headshot of Elizabeth Elizabeth Measell
Adjunct Liaison Librarian at Grand Valley State University
AND Part-time Reference Librarian at Muskegon Community College

What are you currently reading?
  • A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
  • Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin
What are your research interests?
My research interests are informed by my former career as an English teacher. Having been in librarianship for less than a year, my developing interest would fall under the umbrella of Instructional Design. Right now, I'm focused on the gap between high school and college.

Do you have hobbies or interests outside of the library?
I have recently ended a 3-year post-injury hiatus from running. I also enjoy quilting as well as cooking elaborate 5 course meals for at-home date nights.

What drew you to the library profession?
I really enjoy academic librarianship because I have the opportunity to do meaningful work that either directly or indirectly helps students get the most out of their education.

What do you value about MiALA?
MiALA provides great opportunities for me to get involved and learn more about the profession. Because it is a smaller association, it is easier to network with other members. MiALA provides an incredible support system as I work to gain confidence as a librarian, researcher, and presenter.
